One of the comparisons we hear most often from customers shopping for the Overland Van Project Tahoma E is the Supertramp Paragon.
It makes sense. Both are compact, Ford-based expedition RVs designed for four-season travel, off-grid capability and considerably more adventure than a conventional motorhome.
But while the Tahoma E and Paragon attract many of the same buyers, they approach the category very differently.
The Supertramp Paragon prioritizes a compact F-350 platform, permanent bed and large interior bike garage.
The Tahoma E prioritizes living space, family sleeping capacity, payload, water, solar and a warm, inviting interior designed to feel more like a small home.
And one of the most interesting differences is packaging: the Tahoma E is only modestly longer overall, yet provides substantially more usable living space inside.

Which Is Bigger: Tahoma E or Supertramp Paragon?
The Tahoma E is slightly longer overall, but considerably larger where it matters most: inside the habitat.
A crew-cab Paragon is approximately 22 feet 4 inches overall, while the Tahoma E is approximately 23.5 feet overall.
That’s only about 14 inches of additional overall vehicle length.
Inside, however, the difference is much larger.
The Tahoma E provides approximately 13.5 feet of usable living-floor length compared with roughly 8 feet of primary living-floor length in the Paragon.
That’s approximately 70% more living-floor length.
Put another way:
The Tahoma E adds only about 14 inches of overall vehicle length but gains roughly 5.5 feet of living-floor length.
That’s one of the biggest advantages of building the Tahoma E on the Ford E-450 cutaway chassis.
A conventional F-350 pickup dedicates a substantial portion of its overall length to the hood and passenger cab before the camper habitat begins.
The E-450 cutaway allows the habitat to begin immediately behind the front seats, making much more efficient use of the vehicle’s total footprint.
The result is a vehicle that remains under 24 feet long while providing a substantially larger living environment.
Why Does the Paragon Have Less Living-Floor Length?
It’s important to understand that this isn’t wasted space.
Supertramp deliberately uses a significant portion of the Paragon habitat for a permanent bed and large interior bike garage.
For serious cyclists, that’s a great feature.
A permanent bed also means owners don’t need to convert their primary sleeping area every night.
But space inside a compact expedition vehicle is finite.
If you don’t need full-size mountain bikes stored inside the camper, the Tahoma E uses that space differently.
Instead of dedicating such a large portion of the habitat to permanent sleeping and gear storage, the Tahoma E creates a larger living environment with more room for seating, dining, sleeping and simply moving around.
For two people, that’s comfortable.
For a family, it can fundamentally change the experience.
Which Has the More Comfortable Interior?
This is difficult to communicate on a specification sheet, but it’s one of the most noticeable differences between the two vehicles.
The Tahoma E was intentionally designed to feel warm, bright and inviting.
Expedition vehicles often lean toward darker colors, hard surfaces and a utilitarian aesthetic. That approach makes sense for vehicles primarily centered around outdoor recreation and gear.
OVP wanted the Tahoma E to feel different.
The interior uses a warm color palette, comfortable seating, residential-inspired materials and an open layout designed around the possibility that owners may spend weeks or months living inside the vehicle.
The goal wasn’t simply to build a capable expedition vehicle.
It was to build one that still feels like home when the doors close.
Which Is Better for a Family?
The Tahoma E is designed around four to six people actually traveling together, depending on configuration.
That means thinking beyond simply having enough seatbelts.
Where does everyone sit for dinner?
Where does everyone sleep?
Where does everyone’s clothing and equipment go?
What happens when the weather keeps everyone inside for a day?
And can the completed vehicle actually carry the combined weight of those people, water and gear?
The Tahoma E combines approximately 13.5 feet of living-floor length with genuine sleeping arrangements for 4–6 people and more than 2,500 pounds of documented OCCC.
The Paragon includes a primary bed and a dinette that converts into additional sleeping space, so it shouldn’t simply be described as a two-person camper.
However, there’s a meaningful difference between providing additional sleeping space and designing the overall vehicle around a family living comfortably together.
Which Has More Payload: Tahoma E or Paragon?
The Tahoma E has more than 2,500 pounds of documented Occupant and Cargo Carrying Capacity (OCCC).
OCCC is one of the most important numbers on a completed motorhome because it represents the capacity remaining for occupants, water, food, clothing, bikes, tools, recovery equipment and everything else brought aboard.
The Paragon is built on an F-350 SRW chassis with configurations reaching approximately 12,000 pounds GVWR.
At the time of writing, we have not found a manufacturer-published completed Paragon OCCC figure.
Published third-party completed weights around 11,000 pounds suggest that some Paragon configurations could have approximately 1,000 pounds of remaining occupant and cargo capacity.
That should be treated as an estimate rather than an official Paragon OCCC specification because chassis configuration, equipment and options can significantly affect finished weight.
We recommend that buyers request the actual completed weight and payload information for the specific Paragon they’re considering.
By comparison, the Tahoma E provides more than 2,500 pounds of documented OCCC.
For families and extended travelers, that’s a significant difference.
Why Does OCCC Matter So Much?
Consider water alone.
The Tahoma E carries approximately 53 gallons of freshwater.
At roughly 8.34 pounds per gallon, that’s about 442 pounds of water when completely full.
Then add occupants.
Food.
Clothing.
Camping equipment.
Tools.
Recovery gear.
Bikes.
Outdoor furniture.
And everything else that accumulates during an extended trip.
Payload disappears surprisingly quickly.
A large living area and multiple sleeping positions aren’t particularly useful if the completed vehicle doesn’t have enough carrying capacity for the people and equipment it’s designed to accommodate.
That’s one reason the Tahoma E’s 14,500-pound-GVWR Ford E-450 chassis and 2,500+ pounds of documented OCCC are such important parts of the platform.
Is the Supertramp Paragon Really $199,000?
Yes. The Supertramp Paragon has been advertised with a starting price around $199,000 including the truck.
That’s an attractive entry point for this category.
But buyers should understand what they’re comparing.
The entry configuration uses a regular-cab F-350 with the 7.3L gasoline engine, factory suspension, approximately 300Ah of lithium capacity and roughly 330 watts of solar.
From there, buyers can add equipment such as a crew cab, diesel engine, upgraded suspension and tires, larger battery capacity, additional solar, air conditioning, pass-through seating and other features.
A Paragon configured with many of the features commonly expected in a premium expedition RV can approach $300,000 relatively quickly.
That’s not necessarily a negative. It allows buyers to enter the platform at a lower price and select the equipment they actually want.
But it does mean that comparing advertised starting prices doesn’t tell the entire story.
A better question is:
What does each vehicle cost when configured the way I actually want to travel?
Why Does the Tahoma E Use an E-450?
The Tahoma E is built on the Ford E-450 commercial cutaway chassis with a 14,500-pound GVWR.
That’s intentional.
The E-Series cutaway was designed specifically to carry commercial bodies, shuttle buses, ambulances and motorhomes.
For the Tahoma E, that architecture provides two major advantages:
Carrying capacity and packaging efficiency.
A conventional pickup dedicates a substantial portion of its overall length to the hood and passenger cab before the camper habitat begins.
The E-450 cutaway allows the Tahoma habitat to integrate directly behind the cab.
That’s how the Tahoma E can provide approximately 13.5 feet of living-floor length while remaining only about 23.5 feet long overall.
It also creates an easy, natural cab-to-habitat pass-through.
The F-350 platform has advantages of its own. Some buyers will prefer the modern pickup cab and conventional Super Duty driving environment.
The question is which architecture better fits the way you intend to use the vehicle.
Which Has the Better Cab-to-Habitat Pass-Through?
The Tahoma E has an easy integrated cab-to-habitat pass-through as a natural result of its cutaway architecture.
Occupants can move between the driving and living areas without going outside.
Supertramp also offers a substantial pass-through on the Paragon, although pass-through and additional seating arrangements depend on configuration and can add to the vehicle’s price.
For a couple, a pass-through is convenient.
For a family traveling with children, it can become considerably more important.
Which Has More Solar?
The Tahoma E carries approximately 1,000–1,100 watts of permanently installed rooftop solar.
The base Paragon starts with approximately 330 watts of solar, while upgraded electrical packages can increase its fixed solar capacity to approximately 660 watts.
Supertramp also offers additional deployable solar, allowing the Paragon to achieve considerably higher total potential solar input.
Both approaches have advantages.
Portable solar can be positioned toward the sun while the vehicle remains parked in the shade.
Fixed rooftop solar works without setup.
Drive somewhere. Park. Go hiking.
The system continues producing energy.
For extended travel, the Tahoma E prioritizes substantial permanently installed solar capacity so owners aren’t dependent on deploying portable panels every time they stop.
Which Carries More Fresh Water?
The Tahoma E carries approximately 53 gallons of freshwater.
The Paragon provides approximately 40 gallons standard, with a larger 60-gallon option available.
That means the Tahoma E carries substantially more freshwater than a standard Paragon, while an upgraded Paragon can exceed the Tahoma E’s capacity.
For couples, either may provide plenty of water depending on travel style.
For families, freshwater capacity becomes considerably more important as consumption increases.
Which Is Better for Winter Camping?
Both vehicles are designed for four-season adventure travel, but “four season” can mean very different things.
The Tahoma E was developed around a heavily insulated habitat, protected plumbing, hydronic heating and radiant heated floors.
OVP also prioritizes keeping critical water-system components within the insulated and conditioned environment wherever practical.
That’s important because winter capability isn’t simply about keeping the air inside the camper warm.
Water tanks, valves, fittings and plumbing all need protection.
Exterior tanks and plumbing can be protected using insulation and electric heating, but that approach requires energy and creates additional components that must remain protected in freezing conditions.
For serious winter travel, OVP’s philosophy is straightforward:
Keep critical water systems inside the conditioned environment whenever practical rather than relying solely on active freeze protection.
The Paragon uses a composite habitat and Truma Combi heating system and is designed for cold-weather use.
We have not found sufficiently clear manufacturer-published information identifying the location of every Paragon tank and associated plumbing component, so buyers planning significant winter travel should verify those details directly.
A useful question for any manufacturer claiming four-season capability is:
“Which parts of the water system remain exposed to outside temperatures when it’s 0°F?”
Does the Tahoma E Have Heated Floors?
Yes. The Tahoma E uses hydronic radiant floor heating.
This isn’t simply a freeze-protection feature.
It’s a comfort feature.
A furnace can make the air inside a camper warm while the floor remains cold.
Radiant floor heat warms one of the largest surfaces in the habitat and creates a much more even interior environment.
For ski trips, winter camping and extended cold-weather travel, that can make a significant difference in how comfortable the vehicle actually feels.
We have not found radiant floor heating listed among the current published Paragon features.
What Does the Supertramp Paragon Do Particularly Well?
The Paragon has several genuine advantages.
It’s exceptionally compact for the capability it provides.
Its permanent primary bed means owners don’t have to convert their main sleeping area every night.
Its large interior bike garage is an excellent feature for serious cyclists.
Its wet bath is incorporated into the standard layout.
Some buyers will strongly prefer the F-350 cab and driving experience.
And its approximately $199,000 starting price provides a compelling entry point for buyers who don’t need the more expensive available options.
For two people traveling primarily to bike, ski, climb or spend most of their time outside, the Paragon’s design priorities make a lot of sense.
What Does the Tahoma E Do Differently?
The Tahoma E was designed around living comfortably inside the vehicle, particularly for couples and families traveling for extended periods.
That resulted in a different set of priorities.
The Tahoma E provides approximately 13.5 feet of living-floor length—roughly 70% more than the approximately 8 feet of primary living-floor length we’re comparing in the Paragon.
Yet the entire Tahoma E is only about 14 inches longer than a crew-cab Paragon.
It provides more than 2,500 pounds of documented OCCC.
It offers sleeping arrangements designed around 4–6 people.
It carries approximately 53 gallons of freshwater.
It provides approximately 1,000–1,100 watts of permanently installed solar.
It uses hydronic heat with radiant heated floors.
And just as importantly, the interior was deliberately designed to feel warm, comfortable and inviting.
We didn’t want the Tahoma E to feel like a gear locker with somewhere to sleep.
The goal was to create the capability of an expedition vehicle with an interior that feels more like a small home—a place where you’d actually enjoy drinking coffee on a cold morning, cooking dinner with your family or spending a rainy afternoon.
Tahoma E vs. Supertramp Paragon: Which Should You Buy?
There isn’t a universal winner.
If you’re primarily a couple, want the smallest practical F-350-based platform, value a permanent bed and need full-size mountain bikes stored securely inside, the Supertramp Paragon is a compelling package.
If you’re traveling with a family—or simply want considerably more room to actually live—the Tahoma E takes a different approach.
For only about 14 inches of additional overall vehicle length, the Tahoma E provides roughly 5.5 additional feet of living-floor length.
It combines that space with more than 2,500 pounds of documented OCCC, sleeping arrangements for 4–6 people, 53 gallons of freshwater, approximately 1,000–1,100 watts of fixed solar, hydronic radiant floors and a warm, residential-style living environment.
That’s ultimately why customers compare the Tahoma E and Supertramp Paragon so frequently.
Both are compact Ford-based expedition RVs.
Both are designed to travel far beyond conventional campgrounds.
But they make very different decisions about how to use the limited space available.
